Transform a Lifetime of Experience
into a Recognised Qualification
What is APEL.Q?
Introduction to APEL.Q
APEL.Q (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Qualification Award) is the highest form of recognition under the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). It enables highly experienced professionals to transform extensive work experience, skills, and achievements into a formal academic qualification. Instead of starting a programme from the beginning, your proven expertise can be assessed and awarded as a diploma, degree, master’s, or even doctorate.
Benefits of APEL.Q
Formal Recognition
Convert decades of professional experience into a recognised academic qualification.
Career Advancement
Gain credentials that strengthen professional standing and open pathways to senior roles.
Inclusive Pathway
Designed for practitioners who may not have pursued higher education earlier but have extensive knowledge in their field.
Flexible & Practical
Assessments are based on portfolios, interviews, and professional contributions rather than exams alone.
Eligibility Requirements
Diploma
Minimum 10 years of working experience
Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum 15 years of working experience
Master’s Degree

APEL.Q Assessment Process
Once eligibility is confirmed, candidates will go through a structured assessment to demonstrate their expertise. The process includes four key components:
Showcase your knowledge, skills, and achievements through a structured portfolio.
- Must align with the learning outcomes of your chosen qualification
- Include supporting evidence such as reports, certificates, projects, or testimonials
- Demonstrate mastery of the programme’s core areas
Assessors may visit your workplace or project environment to:
- Verify the authenticity of your portfolio
- Observe your competencies in real-world settings
- Engage with your supervisors or peers as references
A formal written, oral, or practical assessment to:
- Objectively validate your prior learning
- Benchmark your knowledge against academic standards
The final stage where you demonstrate mastery of your field through:
- A case study, business plan, research paper, or industry project
- Evaluation by a panel of academics and industry professionals
- Confirmation of your readiness for the award of qualification
